" NS/FS Clip Conn2 " connection design locks

" NS Clip Conn2 " and/or " FS Clip Conn2 " 2-point gusset plate clip angles to a beam web can be designed for horizontal braces of any valid material type when ' Clip angle ' is selected as the " Gusset to beam connection ."

(2 horizontal braces, clip angles to 2-point gusset, to a beam's web)
(horizontal brace " Section size " = any valid shape)
(" Input connection type " = ' Hbrc plate ' or ' User defined ')
(" Gusset to beam connection " = ' Clip angle ')
(" Clip angles on " = ' Both sides ' or ' Near side ' or ' Far side ')
" NS Clip Conn2 "
(" Gusset to clip connection " = ' Bolted ')

" NS Clip Conn2 "
(" Gusset to clip connection " = ' Welded ')

Only 2-point bracing is shown because connection design will not design clip angles for shop bolting a 3-point horizontal brace gusset plate to the web of beam.

Clip angle

Clip angle(s) can be on ' Both sides ' or ' Near side ' or ' Far side ' of the gusset plate. You get a leaf for "   NS Clip Conn2 " and another leaf named "   FS Clip Conn2 " when ' Both sides ' is selected.

Connection to supported (gusset clip angle, NS or FS, leg welded or bolted to the gusset plate) :

When " Connection specifications " > " Gusset to clip connection " is set to ' Welded ', you get a " Weld size " entry field, but no options for bolting:

Weld size ( weld ):

When the " Gusset to clip connection " is set to ' Bolted ', you get the following " Connection to supported " options for shop bolting the brace to the gusset plate. " Connection to supported " settings can be different than the entries made to " Connection to supporting " fields.

Connection to supporting ( 2-point gusset clip angle, NS or FS, leg that shop bolts to one supporting beam) :

Regardless of whether the " Gusset to clip connection " is set to ' Welded ' or ' Bolted ', the connection to supporting is a shop bolted connection with following options:

Bolt diameter ( not depicted ):

diameter of leg-to-beam shop bolts

Hole type ( not depicted ):

Rows:

Vertical to 1st hole ( vert to 1st ):

Vertical hole spacing ( sp ): A single vertical spacing distance or variable hole spacing can be entered here.

VIDEO Variable hole spacing can be typed to locked " Vertical hole spacing " fields found in leaves named " Shear Tab "; " Bent Plate " " End Plate " and " NS/FS Clip Conn 2 " (Recorded in SDS2 Detailing , v2016.)
