Dimension Members ( Modeling )

Tool summary :

  • Adds a dimension in Modeling between the exact points of each selected member that you select.
  • The Dimension Members Tool can be found in Modeling in the " Command group " called ' Toolbox ' in Toolbar Configuration (classic) or in the Ribbon Editor (lightning). It is available at no additional cost to SDS2 software users whose support accounts are current. For more information, contact your SDS2 sales representative.

VIDEO Three different tools that add dimensions to the model are demonstrated. The first tool is Model > Dimensions > Add , for which exact points are located for dimensions along the top chord of a truss. The second tool is Dimension Members (this tool), for which an area box is drawn around to-be-dimensioned vertical braces in a truss. The third tool is Dimension Clearance , for which a column and an angle are selected in order to dimension the clearance between the two materials. (Recorded in SDS2 Detailing , v2017.)

   Step-by-step instructions :

Before adding the dimensions: You should be in Modeling . In Display Options , the display of " Model dimensions " should be turned on. The icon shown above needs to have been added to your toolbar.

Preselection method: 1) Set the selection filter to ' Default' or ' Members ' or ' Legacy Default '. 2) Use Select or Select+ (or draw an area box ) to select the members that you want to dimension. 3) Click the icon.

In-tool selection method: 1) Click the icon. 2) Select the members. 3) Press the Enter key. This is the method that is used in the video shown above.

To remove the dimensions that Dimension Members draws: you can choose Model > Dimension > Erase All (deletes all at once), or you can select specific dimensions while the ' Model Dimensions ' filter is active, then hit the Delete key. Be aware that you can also Save and Load dimensions.
