Round Bar Material (topic)

Round bar is a solid steel material with a cross section that is round. " Section size " and " Rod diameter " are the two fields that are maintained in a shape file for round bar.

Shape file specifications (diameter and section size)

• When the user enters a round bar section size, that section size sets the " Rod diameter " of the round bar.
• A round bar section size can be any string of characters. The usual convention is to designate round bar as follows: "Round bar" prefix + diameter (example: RB3/8 for round bar that is 3/8 inch thick).
• A round bar must exist in the local shape file in order for it to be used in your current Job .

Submaterial piece marking :

• The default material mark prefix for round bar is rb .

How users of a full-featured SDS2 program add round bar to the model :

• In a full-featured SDS2 program , round bar can can be entered as a vertical brace " Section size " to instruct the program to design rod bracing .
• Users of such a program can also add round bar as submaterial of members or as miscellaneous memberes.

Steel grades :

• Steel grades that are available for round bar material are set up using the Job Options table of " Round and Square Bar Grades ."
