FRPT (Free Point)

Tool summary :

  • FRPT stands for "Free Point." It can be used to locate a point wherever the tip of your mouse pointer can hover on screen.
  • For example, FRPT is a good choice for locating a label or the butt end of a pointer. You can also use FRPT to locate noticed points . However, for precise positioning and measurements, do not use FRPT .
  • When you are in a plan view or elevation view in Modeling and FRPT is selected, the point location target ( ) snaps to the work plane of that view. For a plan view, that work plane is the Reference Elevation . You can change the work plane of an elevation view using Relative Depth . To check the location that the target snaps to when using FRPT , you can look at the X-Y-Z display .

   Locating a point using FRPT :

1 . FRPT can be used in Modeling or the Drawing Editor .

1a : Invoke Construction Line Add or Line Add or any any tool that permits the use of FRPT as a Locate option.

2 . Various Locate icons become active, and the status line prompts you to locate a point.

2a : Select the FRPT icon or choose Locate > Free Point or select ' FRPT ' on the Set Location Mode toolbar item or , if you want to use Auto point location, move your mouse pointer as described in step 2b.

2b : Notice that the center of the point location target ( ) snaps to the tip of your mouse pointer ( ). When the target is centered at the point that you want and the X-Y-Z display confirms that point's position, left-click ( Locate ).

2c : Continue to perform the operation you began in step 1a.

Tip: For second point location in the operation you began in step 1a, you can optionally type in a distance and/or angle to constrain the second point to the typed-in distance/angle from the first point. The distance/angle you type will be shown in brackets [ ] in the status line .
