Delete View ( Modeling )

Tool summary :

  • Opens a list of erection views that have been saved in Modeling . Select those views you want to delete.
  • Delete View cannot delete an erection view if it has been added as a sheet item to sheets or other drawings. " On sheet " in Drawing Data can tell you what other drawings an erection view has been placed on.
  • If a view is not on a sheet, Delete View not only removes the view in Modeling , it also removes the detail of that view (if one has been created) in the Drawing Editor . Delete View can also delete curved grid lines , even though they do not have views associated with them.

   Event logging :

  • If " Erection view operations " is turned on (checked) in Event Logging setup, the deletion of an erection view using this tool (or the Delete Project Items utility) will be logged to the " Log " that is found on the Edit Properties window that opens at Home > Project Settings > Job > Job Property Settings. The log entry can also be viewed using the View Event Log utility.

   An alternative to Delete View :

VIDEO When the selection filter is ' Grid Lines ' or ' All ', you can delete grid lines by simply selecting them and hitting the Delete key. This is a direct alternative to Delete View . (Recorded in SDS2 Detailing , v2015.)
  1. Set the selection filter to ' Grid Lines ' or ' All ' so that you can select straight grid lines and/or curved grid lines .
  2. When you press the Delete key (or choose Edit > Delete ), you will be prompted with a Yes-No confirmation dialog for each grid line that you selected.

   Step-by-step instructions :

Delete View lets you erase any view except your current view or a view that has been placed onto a sheet. It can also be used to delete curved grid lines .

1 . In Modeling , invoke Delete View using any one (1) of the following methods:

Method 1 : Click the Delete View icon, which is pictured above. The icon can be taken from the group named ' File -- Views/Grids ' and placed on a toolbar (classic) or the ribbon (lightning).

Method 2 : If " Modeling layout style " is ' Classic ', you can use the menu system to choose File > Views/Grids > Delete View .

Method 3, 4 or 5 : Delete View can also be configured to be invoked using a keyboard shortcut , the context menu , or a mode . For the lightning interface, this configuration is done using Customize Interface .

2 . The Select Erection Views dialog opens. On it is a list of all erection views in your current Job .

One way to delete multiple views is to press the " Select All " button, then hold down the Ctrl key and deselect the views you want to keep.

2a : Select the names of the erection views that you want to delete, then press the " OK " button.

3 . The erection views that you selected are now erased. Your current view redraws so that any grid lines that correspond to the erection views that you selected disappear. If you selected your current view for deletion, you will be notified that you " Cannot delete current view ." As noted at the top of this page, you also are prevented from deleting views that have been added to sheets. If any of the erection views that you deleted have been detailed, the drawings of those views will also be deleted.

Note: Deleting an erection view does not remove steel from the structural model. It merely deletes the view of the 3D model at that location within the global coordinate system .
