" Column Plate " connection design locks

Users can " Force " an auto base/cap plate that frames to nothing "to get Column Plate " locks and a connection in the model. Forcing the connection does not clear the " No supporting member " connection failure message.
  • These instructions assume that the " Plate rotation " is set to ' 0 ' (zero).
  • The plate is divided into left and right sections by the column web center line.
  • The near side of the column web is right section of the column plate.
  • The base/cap plate is mirrored across the half-depth line of the column.
  • The left and right sections DO NOT have to be mirror images of one another.
(column, forced auto base/cap plate, to nothing)
(" Input connection type " = ' Auto base/cap ' )
( Force is required to get a connection in the model)
" Column Plate "
(In this example, " Column rot " = ' 90 ', " Plate rot " = ' 0 ')

When the " Input connection type " is ' Auto base/cap ' and the column does not frame to a beam or joist, connection design will normally fail the connection with the message " No supporting member ." However, users of a full-featured SDS2 program can still get a connection in the model by setting the " Connection " to " Force ."
