A paddle plate that shop welds to a supported HSS/TS beam is designed per " Paddle Plate for HSS Beam " locks when " Use paddle platet " is checked ( ) in the " Connection specifications " for a clip angle or shear connection. Clip angles can weld or bolt to the supporting member and bolt to the paddle plate. A shear plate can shop weld to the supporting member and field bolt to the paddle plate.

In a full-featured SDS2 program, " Use paddle plate " is applied to an HSS/TS beam whose " Input connection type " is ' Shear '. Both the checked off ( ) and checked on ( ) results are shown. Note that increasing the " Weld length " also increases the notch length. (Recorded in SDS2 Detailing , v2016.)
