S shape material (S flange)

Shape file specifications:

d = depth
tw = web thickness
tf = flange thickness
g = gage
bf = flange width
k = k distance

Other shape file specifications: " Nominal Depth ," " Weight per Unit " (lbs/ft or kg/m), " Structural Properties ," " k distance (design) ," " Flange Bevel ."

Additional settings that are not in the local shape file are defined on the Rolled Section Material window. In Site Planning, these additional settings, as well as the shape file specifications, are read-only.

General description: S shape material is rolled structural steel, the cross section of which resembles the letter "I." It is characterized by narrow, tapered flanges and relatively thick webs.S shape material may also be referred to as S flange material or S material. A full-featured SDS2 program can design connections for S shape beams, columns and braces in the same framing situations that it can design connections for wide flange members.

Section size naming convention: ST+nominal_depth+x+nominal_weight/length . For example, ST9x35 . An S-shape section can be added to a shape file (in a full-featured SDS2 program , not in Site Planning) using an entirely different naming convention.

Submaterial piece marking: The default material mark prefix for S shape material is s .

Available steel grades for S shape material are defined at Home > Project Settings > Job > Wide Flange Grades .
