Copy with Reference Point ( Drawing Editor )

Tool summary :

  • Saves a copy of a group of selected objects so that you can later Paste them elsewhere. You set the group's reference point.
  • You can select the objects from any visible layers (layers marked " Show "). You are, however, restricted to pasting those objects to a comment layer in a drawing if that drawing is not a crane placement drawing .

   Step-by-step instructions :

Copy with Reference Point works just like Copy , except that you set the reference point.

1 . Before using this tool:

1a : In Select Items mode, use Select or Select + (or draw an area box ) to select the graphic objects (lines, circles, labels, etc.) that you want to Copy (they change color when selected). Use Select- if you want to deselect objects.

Tip: The selection count decoration shows you the number of objects you have selected.

2 . Invoke Copy with Reference Point using any one (1) of the following methods:

Method 1 : Click the Copy with Reference Point icon. The icon can be taken from the group named ' Edit ' and placed on a toolbar (classic) or the ribbon (lightning).

Method 2 : If " Drawing Editor layout style " is ' Classic ', you can use the menu system to choose Edit > Copy with Reference Pont .

Method 3, 4 or 5 : Copy with Reference Point can also be invoked using a keyboard shortcut , the context menu , or a mode . For the ' Lightning ' layout style, configuration of the interface is done using Customize Interface .

Method 6 : In Select Items Mode , right-click ( Menu ) and choose " Copy with Reference Point " on the context menu .

3 . Locate- Pan -Return mouse bindings become active along with various Locate options. The status line prompts, " Copy: Choose optional reference point ."

Alternative 1 : Select the Locate icon that you want (if it's not selected already). Move the mouse pointer so the point location target snaps to where you want the reference point, then left-click ( Locate ).

Alternative 2 : Right-click ( Return ) to use the default reference point, which is at the lower, left corner of the invisible bounding box around the perimeter of the selected items.

4 . A copy of the selected objects is maintained in memory so long as you do not Copy or Cut or Copy with Reference Point or Cut with Reference Point another group of objects.
