The " New... " button

Please note: You cannot create new 2D erection views using the " New... " button. To create a 2D erection view, you need to auto detail a 3D erection view.

Pressing " New... " :

1 . The " New... " button is on the drawing selection window for Drawing Editor . Use any one (1) of the following methods to open the drawing selection window:

Method 1 : Launch the Drawing Editor from Home ..

Method 2 : If you are already in the Drawing Editor , choose File > Open .

2 . The drawing selection dialog opens.

2a : Select one of the following drawing types:   Job standard details or   Global standards or Reference drawing or   Erection sheets or   Sheet outlines or Symbols or Global symbols .

2b : Press the " New... " button and follow the instructions for the drawing type you selected (" Job Standard Details " or " Global standard details " or " Reference drawings " or " Erection sheets " or " Sheet outlines " or " Symbols " or " Global symbols ").

Note: You cannot create new erection views using the " New... " button. When you select " Erection views " as the drawing type, the " New... " button is disabled (grayed out).

" New " for different file types :

Job standard details . After you press the " New... " button with ' Job standard details ' selected, the New Drawing widow opens.

1 . Type in the " Drawing name " (up to 61 characters) that you want to give the job standard detail, then press " OK ."

2 . The Drawing Data window opens. On it you can, for example, set the " Drawing description " or " File description " or the " Drawing scale ." Press the " OK " button when you are done with this window.

3 . A blank drawing opens. The drawing is the newly created global standard detail. Until you Save it, this drawing exists in RAM only (not on disk).

Global standard details . After you press the " New... " button with ' Global standards ' selected, the New Drawing widow opens.

1 . Type in the " Drawing name " (up to 61 characters) that you want to give the global standard detail, then press " OK ."

2 . The Drawing Data window opens. On it you can, for example, set the " Drawing description " or " File description " or the " Drawing scale ." Press the " OK " button when you are done with this window.

3 . A blank drawing opens. The drawing is the newly created global standard detail. Until you Save it, this drawing exists in RAM only (not on disk).

Reference drawings . After you have pressed the " New... " button with ' Reference drawings ' selected, the New Drawing widow opens.

1 . Type in the " Drawing name " (up to 61 characters) that you want to give the reference drawing. Press " OK ."

2 . The Drawing Data window opens. On it you can, for example, type in a " Drawing scale ." Be aware that the " Drawing scale " is irrelevant to adding a reference drawing in Modeling -- it only affects printing of the drawing. Press the " OK " button when you are done with this window.

3 . A blank drawing opens. The drawing is the newly created reference drawing. You need to Save the drawing to make it permanent.

Erection sheets . After you press the " New... " button with ' Erection sheets selected, the New Drawing widow opens.

1 . Type in the " Drawing name " (up to 61 characters) that you want to give the erection sheet, then press " OK ."

2 . A selection dialog opens. On it is a list of sheet outlines . Double-click the sheet outline that you want.

3 . The newly created erection sheet opens. Except for those graphics from the sheet outline, the new sheet is totally blank. Until you Save it, this erection sheet exists in RAM only (not on disk).

Sheet outlines . After you press the " New... " button with ' Sheet outlines ' selected, the New Drawing widow opens.

1 . Type in the sheet outline name (up to 61 characters), then press " OK ."

2 . Another dialog opens. Enter a " Sheet width " and " Sheet length " or select a " Standard Paper Size " from the cascading menu, then press " OK ." Paper sizes are available in the following standards: ANSI (American National Standards Institute), ISO (International Standards Organization) and ARCH (architectural). User-defined , which is listed at the top of the list box's menu ( ) , can be used to define a non-standard-sized sheet. For any standard size that you select, you need to specify the orientation you want: landscape (width > length) or portrait (length > width).

3 . A blank drawing opens. This blank drawing is the new sheet outline you just created. You may now wish to place graphics on the sheet outline. Until you Save it, this drawing exists in RAM only (not on disk).

Symbols . After you press the " New... " button with ' Symbols ' selected, the New Drawing widow opens.

1 . Type in the " Drawing name " (up to 61 characters) that you want to give the symbol. Press " OK ."

2 . The Drawing Data window opens. On it you can, for example, enter a " Drawing scale " to match the type of drawing you are likely to add the symbol to. Press the " OK " button when you are done with this window.

3 . A blank drawing opens. The drawing is the newly created symbol. You may wish to add graphics and a ${Value} label. To confirm that the drawing's reference point is where you want it, you can use File > Verify Reference Point . You need to Save the drawing to make it permanent.

Note: A symbol is stored in your current Job .

Global symbols . After you press the " New... " button with ' Global symbols ' selected, the New Drawing widow opens.

1 . Type in the " Drawing name " (up to 61 characters) that you want to give the symbol. Press " OK ."

2 . The Drawing Data window opens. On it you can, for example, type in a " Drawing description " or enter a " Drawing scale ." Press the " OK " button when you are done with this window.

3 . A blank drawing opens. The drawing is the newly created symbol. You may wish to add graphics and a ${Value} label. To confirm that the drawing's reference point is where you want it, you can use File > Verify Reference Point . You need to Save the drawing to make it permanent.

Note: A global symbol is stored in the data directory for your current version of Site Planning.
