S tee material (topic)

Shape file specifications:

d = depth
k = k distance
g = gage
bf = flange width
tf = flange thickness
tw = web thickness

Other shape file specifications: " Nominal Depth ," " Weight per Unit " (lbs/ft or kg/m), " Structural Properties ," " k distance (design) ," " Flange Bevel ."

Additional settings that are not in the local shape file are defined on the Rolled Section Material window. In Site Planning, these additional settings, as well as the shape file specifications, are read-only.

General description: S tee material is rolled steel with a cross section that is "T" shaped. It is basically a S shape section that has been cut in half. It has a top flange and a web (the "stem"). S tee material is a type of "tee material." A full-featured SDS2 program can design connections for S tee horizontal and vertical braces in generally the same framing situations that it can design connections for W tee braces. However, bolting an S tee seat is more difficult than a W tee seat because of the angular surface inside its flange.

Section size naming convention: ST+nominal_depth+x+nominal_weight/length . For example, ST9x35 . An S tee section can be added to a shape file (in a full-featured SDS2 program , not in Site Planning) using an entirely different naming convention.

In Modeling and the Drawing Editor : An S tee section must exist in the local shape file before a user of a full-featured SDS2 program can enter it as a " Section size " to a member or material edit window in Modeling , or before its weight will be automatically calculated when the user adds it to the " Description " field in the bill editor.

Submaterial piece marking: The default material mark prefix for S tee material is st .

Available steel grades for S tee material are defined at Home > Project Settings > Job > Wide Flange Grades .
