Copy Jobs ( Home & Modeling & Drawing Editor )

  • Copy Jobs can copy one or more Jobs from one or more repositories to a destination repository. The destination job " Job name " can be changed.
  • The utility detects when the destination " Job name " is the same as the name of the Job being copied and adds an asterisk (*) in front of the source Job's listing. The asterisk indicates that the source Job will overwrite the destination Job of the same name.
  • To prevent such overwriting from happening, you can select the source Job with the asterisk in front of it, then enter a new destination " Job name ." Doing so makes the asterisk go away.
  • You can use this utility to copy a Job for backup, training, experimentation, testing and modification purposes.
  • You can copy a Job that is stored in a particular repository to that same repository so long as you give the destination job a new " Job name ."

Step-by-step instructions :

Before using this utility: Before you can copy Jobs to a particular folder on a particular drive, you need to make sure that that folder is an SDS2 job repository. This can be done using the Job Repositories utility.

1 . Start the Copy Jobs utility:

Method 1 : Home > Utilities > Utility Functions > Copy > Copy Jobs . If prompted to do so, enter the " Utility Password " that has been set up for your network.

Method 2 : In Modeling (classic) or the Drawing Editor , choose Utility > Copy Jobs .

2 . The Copy Job window opens. On it are the following options.

The "path" of each Job in the " Source jobs " list consists of two parts separated by a slash ("/"). The first part is the repository in which that Job is maintained. The second part is the name of the Job. In this example, two different repositories are listed. They are " Default Repository " and " Backup ."

------ Source Jobs ------

2a ( required ): Press to open a selection window that lets you select Jobs to populate the " Source jobs " list. Initially, the Job repository menu is set to the " Default Repository " and Jobs that are stored in that repository are listed. If you want a different list of Jobs, you can change to a different repository. Select the Jobs that you want, the press " OK ." The Jobs you selected now populate the " Source jobs " list.

2b ( optional ): To add additional Jobs to the Jobs you already populating the " Source jobs " list, you can press again and, for example, use the Job repository menu to get a different selection of Jobs to choose from. After selecting Jobs and pressing " OK ," the jobs you selected populate the " Jobs source " list. Even if two Jobs you selected in 2a and 2b have the same names -- they both are listed.

2c ( optional ): You may find that there are Jobs in the " Source Jobs " list that you don't want to copy after all. For example, if two Jobs have exactly the same name, you might want to delete one of them. To do so, simply select the Job and press the button.

------ Destination Job ------

2d ( required ): Before you press " OK ," confirm that the correct destination " Repository " is selected on the menu . All Jobs with unique names that are in the " Source jobs " list will be copied to this repository when you press " OK ." As you switch from one " Repository " to another, you may find that an asterisk (*) is placed in front of the certain Jobs in the source list. An asterisk indicates that the source Job it is next to has the same name as a destination Job.

2e ( optional ): One way to get rid of an asterisk that is next to a source Job is to rename the destination " Job name ." To do this, simply select the Job in the " Source jobs " list, then type a new destination " Job name ." When you press " OK ," the copy that is created is given the new name you entered. You may also wish to rename the new Jobs for tracking purposes. You can even copy a Job from one repository into the same repository by giving the copy a different " Job name ."

2f . Press " OK " or " Cancel " to close this window.

Alternative 1 : Press " OK " to copy the " Source Jobs " into the destination " Repository " and go to step 3.

Alternative 2 : Press " Cancel " to end the Copy Jobs operation and keep everything as it was before step 1. Do not continue.

3 . After you press the " OK " button in the previous step, following are some possibility statements that detail circumstances under which you will get particular results:

Possibility 1 : All of the source Jobs had unique names and each of them were from repositories other than the destination repository. None of the Jobs in the " Source Jobs " list had asterisks (*) next to them. All of those Jobs are copied to the destination repository.

Possibility 2 : Some of the source Jobs had the same names as other source Jobs. Only one such Job with the same name is copied to the destination repository.

Possibility 3 : Some of the source Jobs had the same names as Jobs that already resided in the destination repository. These source Jobs, therefore, had an asterisk (*) next to their names in the " Source jobs " list. So long as you the source repository and source destination are different, the source Jobs overwrite the destination Jobs.

Possibility 4 : Some of the source Jobs with an asterisk (*) next to their names are stored in the same repository as the destination repository. When you pressed " OK ," these Jobs do not overwrite themselves. Instead, for each such instance, you get a diplomatic message which states, " Cannot copy [job_name] to itself ."
