Member - Set Explode View Position

Sets or resets the exploded view position of one or more members that you select.

1 . Invoke Member - Set Explode View Position using the Find Tool by searching the command name and clicking the icon, which is pictured above.

2 . The status line prompts, "Select member(s) to explode". Left-click (Select) one or more members. Press Enter or right-click (Menu) and select OK.

Alternative: Press Esc or right-click and select Cancel to end the command.

3 . The status line prompts, "Locate a reference point". Locate - Pan - Return mouse bindings become active along with Locate options. Select the Locate icon you want and left-click (Locate) where you want the reference point.

Alternative: Press Esc or right-click (Return) to end the command.

4 . The status line prompts, "Locate a second point". Left-click (Locate) where you want the member(s) exploded view position to be located with respect to the reference point located in step 3.

Alternative: Press Esc or right-click (Return) to end the command.

  • If you later auto detail this erection view as an Exploded . . . 2D erection view detail, auto detailing will draw the member(s) you selected during this operation in their exploded view position.
  • Exploded view positions are applied to members no matter what the view. This makes it easy to get an Exploded . . . isometric view without your having to apply the exploded positions in an isometric view. It's a lot easier to apply exploded positions in a plan view than in an isometric view.
  • If you want to move a member's exploded view position, you do not first have to Clear Exploded View Position. The member is simply assigned the newest exploded view position that you set.
  • Check the box for Show exploded positions on the Display Options window. This makes it easier to see the results of this operation.

  • You may want to repeat this operation for other members in this view. Since the Show exploded positions option disables many Modeling functions, you should uncheck it before you go on to do something else.
