YouTube video: The Populate ABM window in this video shows candidates that can be chosen to populate a revised ABM (revision 1).

Overview :

  • The Populate ABM window lets you move materials from the " ABM Candidates " list to the " Add to ABM " list.
  • Each material listed is a single piece of material. No single piece of material can be in both lists.
  • The version of the Populate ABM window that opens when you press " New " shows -- in the " ABM Candidates " list -- all materials in the model for which " ABM " is checked on their material edit windows. For member main materials , " ABM " may also be checked on their member edit windows as well as their material edit windows.
  • The version of this window that opens when you press " Update ABM " may ex clude from the " ABM Candidates " list those materials that were moved to the " Add to ABM " list when that ABM was created or last modified. Other materials that have " ABM " checked are included in the " Update ABM " list.
  • When materials have been moved to the " Add to ABM " list, pressing the " Create ABM " button (for a new ABM) or the " Update ABM " button (for an ABM update) closes the window and assigns each material in the " Add to ABM " list a page-line (or an ABM system ID).

Select By: ' Materials ' or ' Members '

' Materials ' lets you select individual materials in the " ABM Candidates " list.

' Members ' automatically selects all members associated with a member when you click one material associated with that member.

Example: Check the box to show " Member Number ." You will find find the following:

  • If you select by ' Members ' and click one material that has a particular member number, all materials with that member number will be selected.
  • If you then select by ' Materials ' and click that same one material, only that one material is selected.

--- Sort Order ---

  • If every sort order is blank , the " ABM Candidates " list is sorted in numerical order by member number , beginning with the lowest member number. Where multiple materials are associated with the same member number, the member main material is listed first.
  • Checking ( ) or unchecking ( ) " Sequence " or " Material Type " or etc. does not affect the sort order associated with a particular category. Sorting is done based on the order that is set ( [ - ] or [ 1 ] or etc.) for that category. It is not based on whether or not a column is shown ( or ) for that category.
  • Setting a sort order of one results in all materials in the " ABM Candidates " list being sorted in alphabetical, numeric or alphanumeric order based on the material attributes associated with the category to which the sort order is applied. For example, if is set for the category " Material Type ," the material types are sorted in alphabetical order, with instances of angle material listed first, followed by channel material, followed by cold formed C, and so on..
  • If multiple sort orders are applied, is the primary sort order, is the secondary sort order, and so on ... The primary sort order takes precedence. For example, if the category " Material Type " is and " Sequence " is , primary sorting is done by material type, resulting in angle materials being in the first group, channels being in the second group and cold formed Cs being in the third group. Within each of these angle, channel and cold formed C groups, the materials are sorted by sequence.

Sequence: or and/or a sort order .

If this box is checked ( ), the first column in the " ABM Candidates " list shows the sequence name of materials. User-entered sequence names will be reported if names have been entered at Home > Project Settings > Job > Zone and Sequence > press " Sequence Names " > Sequence Names .

If the box is not checked ( ), a column for sequences does not appear in the " ABM Candidates " list.

If a sort order is applied, the sequence of each material can affect how that material is sorted within the " ABM Candidates " list. Sorting of sequences is numeric, based on the index number, not the name, of the sequence -- see Sort Order .

Material Type: or and/or a sort order .

If this box is checked ( ), a column in the " ABM Candidates " list shows the material type of materials. That column shows, for example, whether that material is an " Angle " or a " Channel" or a " Wide Flange " material.

If the box is not checked ( ), a column for showing a material's material type does not appear in the " ABM Candidates " list.

If a sort order is applied (e.g., or ), the material type of each material can affect how that material is sorted within the " ABM Candidates " list. Material type sorting is alphabetical. See Sort Order .

Description: or and/or a sort order .

If this box is checked ( ), a column in the " ABM Candidates " list shows the description of materials.

If the box is not checked ( ), a column for showing a material's material type does not appear in the " ABM Candidates " list.

If a sort order is applied (e.g., or ), the material type of each material can affect how that material is sorted within the " ABM Candidates " list. Description sorting is alphanumeric. See Sort Order .

Piecemark: or and/or a sort order .

If this box is checked ( ), a column in the " ABM Candidates " list shows the submaterial piecemark (minor mark) of materials.

If the box is not checked ( ), a column for showing a material's submaterial piecemark does not appear in the " ABM Candidates " list.

If a sort order is applied, the submaterial mark of each material can affect how that material is sorted within the " ABM Candidates " list. Submaterial piecemark sorting is alphanumeric. See Sort Order .

Member Mark: or and/or a sort order .

If this box is checked ( ), a column in the " ABM Candidates " list shows the member piecemark (major mark) of a member that the material is a submaterial of.

If the box is not checked ( ), a column for showing a material's member piecemark does not appear in the " ABM Candidates " list.

If a sort order is applied, the member piecemark of each material can affect how that material is sorted within the " ABM Candidates " list. Member mark sorting is alphanumeric. See Sort Order .

Member Type: or and/or a sort order .

If this box is checked ( ), a column in the " ABM Candidates " list shows the member type (Beam, Column, Vertical brace, etc.) of the member that the material is a main material of. If the material is not a main material, the member type is not shown. If you check this box and leave all other boxes unchecked, then only material that is member main material will visibly be listed in the " ABM Candidates " list. Each other material will still have a place in the list -- it just won't have a visible listing.

If the box is not checked ( ), a column for showing a member main material's member type does not appear in the " ABM Candidates " list.

If a sort order is applied, the member type of each member main material can affect how that material is sorted within the " ABM Candidates " list. For example, if a sort order of is applied, the materials that are member main material will be listed first in the " ABM Candidates " list. Member type sorting is alphabetical. See Sort Order .

Member Number: or and/or a sort order .

If this box is checked ( ), a column in the " ABM Candidates " list shows the member number of the member that the material is a submaterial of.

If the box is not checked ( ), a column for showing a material's member's member number does not appear in the " ABM Candidates " list.

Before applying a sort order , see Sort Order .

ABM Note: or and/or a sort order .

If this box is checked ( ), a column in the " ABM Candidates " list shows the ABM note of each material in the list to which such a note has been applied. If no note has been applied to a material, no note is shown. If you check this box and leave all other boxes unchecked, then only the notes of material to which notes have been applied will be visibly listed in the " ABM Candidates " list. Each other material will still have a place in the list -- it just won't have a visible listing.

If the box is not checked ( ), a column for showing a material's ABM note does not appear in the " ABM Candidates " list.

If a sort order is applied, the notes applied to material can affect the order in which materials are sorted within the " ABM Candidates " list. For example, if a sort order of is applied, those materials that have notes will be listed first in the " ABM Candidates " list. Note sorting is alphanumeric. See Sort Order .

That is to say, when you " Create ABM" or " Update ABM ," each material in the " Add to ABM " list is assigned a page and a line. That page and line may be a new line, or the material will be added to an existing page and line and the " Quantity " reported for that page and line will be increased.
