Dummy Material (topic)

  • Joist panels are entirely composed of dummy material. Joist connection materials are regular plates or angles, and joist bolts are just regular field bolts.
  • If you use Import Model to import a file whose " File format " is ' DGN ' or ' DWG ' or ' IGES ' or ' STEP ', the model is imported as one reference model member . All materials attached to that member are dummy materials, with piecemarks such as d2.
  • If you use Manage Reference Models ( ) in Modeling to import an DGN, DWF, DWG or IFC reference model, the reference model will consist of a single reference model member to which there may be attached one or more dummy materials.
  • A dummy material is assigned a submaterial mark prefix of d. In other words, dummy materials are assigned piecemarks such as d1, d2, d3, etc.
  • Dummy material is not included in reports (such as the Joist Report or Connection Calculations or Expanded Connection Design Calculations ), and it is not listed in any member's bill of material .
  • Dummy material does appear on member details, but is not automatically included in the member bill of material and is not called out or dimensioned on the member detail. Detail Submaterial cannot detail dummy material.

mtrl.dummy = 'Yes' or 'No'

'Yes' makes a parametrically added material into dummy material. A parametrically added dummy material does appear on a member detail, but is auto detailed without a callout or dimensions, and the material is not automatically listed in the member bill of material.

'No' does the same thing as not including the mtrl.dummy attribute in a parametric script. The material is generated as regular material, not dummy material.
