To open Reinforcing Bar Definitions :

An SDS2 Concrete or SDS2 Concrete Station license is required before you can open this window using the methods described below.

Double-click a listing on the Rebar Definitions window.

Standard: read-only . This is the " Standard " that contains the reinforcing bar definition options you edit here, in the Reinforcing Bar Definition window.

Size designation: A string . Conventionally, this describes the nominal size of the bar. For example, bar that is nominally 5/8" in diameter is designated "#5" when the ASTM standard designation is used.

Diameter: A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ). This is the diameter of the reinforcing bar cross section.

Weight: The weight of the bar per linear unit (in pounds/foot (lbs/ft) or kilograms/meter (kg/m), depending on the primary dimension " Units ").

Min bend diameter: The inner diameter (a distance in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ) of the bend. This should be set to the minimum hook diameter as defined by ACI 318 when a standard hook is desired for a particular ASTM rebar designation.

------ Default Parameters ------

The following options set hook lengths and bend diameters for hooks added to concrete templates created with the End Hook , Stirrup Hook , or Seismic Stirrup Hook shape operations (when their " Parameter Type " is set to ' Auto '), or to rebar added using those templates. These options also set the length and bend diameters of hooks added when a Rebar Layout is input.

End Hooks

Bend diameter: The inner diameter (a distance in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ) of the bend.

Hook length (90 degree): A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ).

Hook length (180 degree): A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ).

Each " Hook length " should be set to the length of the corresponding standard hook as defined by ACI 318 when a standard hook is desired for a particular ASTM rebar designation.

Stirrup Hooks/Tie Bends

Bend diameter: The inner diameter (a distance in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ) of the bend.

Hook length (90 degree): A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ).

Hook length (135 degree): A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ).

Each " Hook length " should be set to the length of the corresponding standard hook as defined by ACI 318 when a standard hook is desired for a particular ASTM rebar designation.

Seismic Stirrup Hooks/Tie Bends

Bend diameter: The inner diameter (a distance in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ) of the bend.

Hook length (135 degree): A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ). The " Hook length " option distance should be set to the length of the corresponding standard hook as defined by ACI 318 when a standard hook is desired for a particular ASTM rebar designation.

------ Min/Max Bar Lengths ------

Max mill length: A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ). This is the maximum mill length in which the bar is available before fabrication. By definition, the maximum fabrication length (" Stock/max fab length ") cannot exceed it.

Min fab length: A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ). This applies when " AUTO " is checked for the " Max bar length " when editing certain members; for example, Concrete beams and Cast in Place Beams . This should not be greater than the " Stock / max mill length "; otherwise, the " Stock fab length " distance is used.

------ Splice Lengths ------

Horz. in concrete: A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ). This is the splice length for horizontal rebar in concrete -- for example, when a Rebar System custom component is added to a concrete member.

Vert. in concrete: A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ). This is the splice length for vertical rebar in concrete -- for example, when a Rebar System custom component is added to a concrete member.

In masonry: A distance (in the primary dimension " Units " or other units ). Not implemented
