Plan View

Default shortcut: v
Shows you a plan view of your model at the elevation you enter.

1 . Click the Plan View icon, which is pictured above. The icon can be found on the Layout page > Navigate section.

Alternative: Invoke Plan View using the Find Tool by searching the command name and clicking the icon, which is pictured above.

2 . The Reference Elevation window appears. Type in the elevation you want the plan view to show. Press Enter or click OK.

Alternative: Press Esc or click Cancel to end the command.

3 . Your current view changes to a plan view at the elevation you entered.

Note: At this point you have not actually created a new view; you have simply changed your current view in Modeling. Use Save View As to save a complete plan view or Save Area to save a partial plan view.

  • A plan view looks down toward lower elevations.
  • Since a plan view has no lateral limits, it shows all steel that is at that particular elevation and falls within the Depth checking limits.
  • Plan View changes your current view in the 3D model. To make a permanent copy of the plan view, use Save View As to save a complete view or Save Area to save a partial view. You can then use Open View to easily re-open the view in Modeling or use Detail Erection Views to create an erection view drawing of the plan view you saved.
  • A plan view can also be created when you start up Modeling for the first time on a newly created Job.
  • Surfaces of materials in a solid form that are exactly at the elevation of a plan view's reference elevation are displayed more brightly. See work plane highlighting.
