Tool summary :
- Opens the Drawing Editor and shows the member detail or submaterial detail that depicts the member or material that you selected.
- The detail of a member or material can be shown only if the detail exists. A detail will exist if the member or material has undergone automatic detailing .
- Also, if the detail is out of date, you will be notified of such and given the option to redetail the member or material. See what Show Detail does .

Show Detail is used to show a beam detail that includes user-added views. The user-added views are then deleted in member isolation and the detail is redetailed (using Detail Current Piecemark ) to demonstrate that the views are no longer shown on the detail.

To invoke Show Detail (or Show Detail Other ) :
In Modeling ...
▸ Click the Show Detail icon, which is pictured above. The icon can be taken from the group named ' View ' and placed on the ribbon.
▸ Show Detail can also be configured to be invoked using a keyboard shortcut , the context menu , or a mode . The default keyboard shortcut is s d . You can select or hover a member or material, then choose " Show Detail " on the default context menu. Or choose " Show Detail " on the default model tree context menu.
Preselection versus in-tool selection :
- If you preselect a member or material before invoking Show Detail (or Show Detail Other ), then Show Detail acts on that member or material.
- If there is no preselection (or an inappropriate selection) when you invoke Show Detail from the View menu, you are prompted to select a member or material and provided Select One Item mouse bindings.

- On the default context menu that you get when you hover an item (and no item is selected), " Show Detail Other... " is visible and " Show Detail " is not visible.
What Show Detail (or Show Detail Other ) does :
- Possibility 1 : If the member or material has a detail that is up to date, Show Detail (or Show Detail Other ) starts up the Drawing Editor and shows the detail of the selected member or material.
- Possibility 2 : If the member or material has not yet been detailed, then Show Detail opens a yes-no dialog and asks you if you want to detail it. If you press " Yes ," Show Detail does a Detail Member or Detail Submaterial then starts up the Drawing Editor and shows the detail of the selected member or material. If you press " No ," this operation ends. Note: The annotation " (create detail) " is shown on the context menu for this situation.
- Possibility 3 : If the member or submaterial detail is out of date, Show Detail opens a yes-no dialog and asks you if you want to re-detail it. If you press " Yes ," Show Detail does a Detail Member or Detail Submaterial then starts up the Drawing Editor and shows the new detail. If you press " No ," Show Detail starts up the Drawing Editor and shows the out-of-date detail. Note: The annotation " (re-detail) " is shown on the context menu for this situation.
After Show Detail (or Show Detail Other ) has opened the drawing :
- Full Drawing Editor functionality is available to you for editing that drawing (or even other drawings), without restrictions.
