Standard Rebar Bends: Copy Global to Job ( Utility Functions )

  • Global rebar shape templates are stored in the data directory used by your current version of this program. Job rebar shape templates are stored in your current Job and can be added to rebar in that Job by selecting the " Template " in that rebar shape's edit window.
  • However, a rebar shape edit window cannot be used to add a global template. So, in order to get a copy of a global template into your current Job, you need to use a utility to copy templates that you have created in your current Job to a library of global templates.
  • The number or names of global templates currently maintained in the data directory does not change as a result of your using this utility.
  • See the step-by-step instructions .

If there are no rebar shape templates in your current Job, you will be notified of such, and this operation will end without the selection dialog being opened.

Alternative 1 : Select the names of the templates that you want to be copied as global symbols, then press the " OK " button at the bottom of this selection dialog. Go to step 3.

Alternative 2 : Press the " Cancel " button to end the Copy Global Rebar Shapes to Job operation. Do not continue.

3 . One of the following happens:

Possibility 1 : An alert dialog opens if any of the rebar shape templates you selected in step 2 reside in your current Job. If you press " Yes " on this dialog, you will overwrite the rebar shape templates with those in your template repository. If you press " No " on this dialog, the Copy Global Rebar Shapes to Job operation ends. Do not continue.

One or more of the selected items already exists.
Do you want to overwrite?

Warning 1 : If you overwrite a rebar shape template with one from your global repository, the newly copied template will redefine the rebar shape if it is later marked for processing (for example, by using the Mark for Processing tool) and then undergoes Process and Create Solids . If the template that you overwrote had more parameters than the shape you copied, the results may be unpredictable for rebar shapes defined by that template. For this reason, do not use Copy Global Rebar Shapes to Job to overwrite a rebar shape template that already provides a template for reinforcing bar that you have already modeled.

Warning 2 : If you copy a rebar shape template from your global repository, and the template in your current Job that you overwrote had less parameters than the shape template you copied, you may be unable to proceed if you attempt to change members to solid form (for example, by invoking Change All to Solid Opaque ) while in Modeling . In that case, you could delete the member or material as well as the submaterial mark used by the rebar shape to successfully run Verify and Fix . For this reason, do not use Copy Global Rebar Shapes to Job to overwrite a rebar shape template that already provides a template for reinforcing bar that you have already modeled.

Possibility 2 : None of the templates you selected in step 2 reside in your current job. The templates are copied to your job, and the operation ends.

4 . The global templates selected in step 2 continue to exist in the repository for such templates and copies of those templates are now rebar shape templates . You can now apply such a template to rebar shapes material in your current Job by making it the " Template " selection in the shape's edit window.
