Engineering Verification Example Problems
SDS2 maintains a repository of dozens of tests to validate that the engineering calculations produced by SDS2 maintain their accuracy. A portion of these tests are reproductions of published design examples by different governing bodies in structural steel engineering within SDS2.
Documents have been prepared for these design examples that summarize the problem from the publication, link to the design report from SDS2, and then summarize the differences between SDS2’s calculated limit state capacities and those from the governing body.
These are provided as a means of validating SDS2’s engineering calculations.
To this point, documents have been created for SDS2’s design according to ASD 16th edition and LRFD 16th edition using the Companion to the AISC Steel Construction Manual, Volume 1: Design Examples, Version 16.0. These include
- AISC Verification Problem Example II.A-18
- AISC Verification Problem Example II.A-1A
- AISC Verification Problem Example II.A-20
- AISC Verification Problem Example II.B-1
Documents have also been created for SDS2’s design according to the UK national annex of Eurocode 3. The reference publications for these design examples are Joints in Steel Construction: Simple Joints to Eurocode 3 and Joints in Steel Construction: Moment-Resisting Joints to Eurocode 3 from the Steel Construction Institute (SCI). These include
- Angle Web Cleats – Beam to Column
- Fin Plates – Beam to Beam (left beam connection)
- Fin Plates – Beam to Beam (right beam connection)
- Fin Plates – Beam to Column Web – Tying Resistance
- Partial Depth End Plate – Beam to Beam (left beam connection)
- Partial Depth End Plate – Beam to Beam (right beam connection)
- Partial Depth End Plate – Beam to Column Web – Tying Resistance
- Full Depth End Plate – Beam to Column
- Moment End Plate
Similar documents for other design methods will follow in the future.
