Extend All Selected Members to Nearby Members

Extends or trims beam ends to a column when they fall within a specified distance from the column.
This tool must be downloaded from SDS2 Toolbox and installed in order to use it.

Before Extend All Selected Members to Nearby Members, B_125 and B_126 will not be extended because they are more than 1'-1" away from any of the selected columns.

After Extend All Selected Members to Nearby Members, B_92 is extended to columns C_128. B_127 is also be extended to column C_128.

1 . Click the Extend All Selected Members to Nearby Members icon, which is pictured above. The icon can be found on the Toolbox page.

Alternative: Invoke Extend All Selected Members to Nearby Members using the Find Tool by searching the command name and clicking the icon, which is pictured above.

2 . Select Item(s) mouse bindings become active, and the status line prompts you to " Locate members to extend ". Select the member(s) you want to extend and the member(s) you want to extend to . Press the Enter key or right-click and choose " OK " on the context menu when you are done selecting.

Alternative: Press Esc to end the command.

3 . The Extend All Selected window opens. Enter the maximum distance from the center of each column to the beam ends. Only the beam ends located within this distance will be extended or shortened to the column. Select "OK".

Alternative: Press "cancel" to end the command.

4 . The members you selected will be extended or trimmed if they are within the limit set in Step 3. The " Keep Changes " window opens and asks "Do you want to keep these changes" and if you want to "Add Member Pins" .

Note :  If " Add Member Pins " is checked ( ) when you select the " Yes " button, the " Offset from member line " member pin is applied to the beam end that was moved and will have the appropriate offsets applied.

Alternative 1 : Press the " Yes " button to accept the changes.

Alternative 2 : Press the " No " button to undo the changes.

  • You must select the columns and beams in the same selection. Extended members then undergo Process and Create Solids , which, where possible, will apply appropriate setbacks and attempt to design system connections for them.
