Bolt Add Point to Point ( Modeling )

Tool summary :

  • Locate two points to define the grip of the bolt. On the Bolt Edit window, specify nuts and washers and other bolt attributes.
  • Unlike Bolt Add and Add Single Ply , Bolt Add Point to Point does not require that a bolt be added to a hole.
  • To add nuts and washers only (for example, to a threaded round bar), uncheck the box for " Bolt " on the Bolt Edit window.

   Step-by-step instructions :

The following instructions assume that you are using a 3-button mouse. You can do step 1b (preselection) or step 3 (in-tool selection) to perform this operation.

1 . Before using this tool:

1a (tip) : To be able to see the bolt when it is generated, display the member you are adding it to in one of the three solid forms .

1b (optional) : In Select Items mode, left-click ( Select ) the one member that you want to add the bolt to (so that it is displayed in the User and Site Options > Modeling > " Primary selection surface color ").

2 . Invoke Bolt Add Point to Point using any one (1) of the following methods:

Methods 1, 2 & 3 : Click the icon, or use a keyboard shortcut, or use the context menu. A Bolt Add Point to Point icon can be added to your toolbar (classic) or ribbon (lightning). The icon, keyboard shortcut or context menu command can be found in the group named ' Model -- Bolt '. For lightning, Customize Interface is used to configure ribbons, keyboards, the context menu and modes.

Method 4 : If " Modeling layout style " is ' Classic ', you can use the menu system to choose Model > Bolt > Add Point to Point .

3 . Skip this step if you already selected a member in step 1b.

Select One Item bindings

3a (if you didn't do 1b or etc.) : The status line prompts you to " Locate member ." Select One Item mouse bindings are activated so that you can left-click ( Select ) the member you want. This prompting also occurs when more than one member is selected or if, for example, a material or bolt is selected.

4 . Locate- Pan -Return mouse bindings become active along with various Locate options.

Alternative 1 : Select the Locate icon you want (if its not pressed already), then move your mouse pointer ( ) so that the point location target ( ) snaps to where you want the head end of the bolt grip, then left-click ( Locate ). Go to step 5.

Alternative 2 : Right-click ( Return ) to end the Bolt Add Point to Point operation and keep everything as it was before step 1. Do not continue.

5 . Locate- Pan -Return mouse bindings continue to be active.

Alternative 1 : Place your mouse pointer ( ) so that the point location target ( ) snaps to where you want the nut end of the bolt grip, then left-click ( Locate ). Go to step 6.

Alternative 2 : Right-click ( Return ) to end the Bolt Add Point to Point operation and keep everything as it was before step 1. Do not continue.

6 . The Bolt Edit window opens.

Alternative 1 : Enter the settings that you want applied to the bolt, then press " OK ." Go to step 7.

Alternative 2 : Press the " Cancel " button on the Bolt Edit window to end this operation without generating the bolt. Do not continue.

7 . The bolt is generated. If the member it is added to is displayed in one of the three solid forms , the bolt is displayed on screen. The mouse bindings that were active before you invoked Bolt Add Point to Point are again active.
