Construction Line Add Material ( Modeling or 2D > press c z )

Tool summary :

  • Adds construction lines along edges and corners ( vertex points ) of materials that you select.
  • In multi-user Modeling environments, any construction lines that you add will be seen in your workstation only.
  • In the Drawing Editor , the construction lines are added to a comment layer . Or, if your current drawing is a crane placement drawing , the construction lines may be added to any layer in that drawing.

VIDEO In a full-featured SDS2 program, Construction Line Add Material is used to add construction lines at half the nominal depth of beams. Vertical construction lines are then placed at regular intervals perpendicular to the beams using BSCL . The intersections of these construction lines ( INCL points) are used to add vertical bracing. (Recorded in SDS2 Detailing , v2017.)

VIDEO Construction lines that were added using Construction Line Add To Material are deleted by doing an Construction Line Add To Material on that same material again. (Recorded in SDS2 Detailing , v7.3.)

Quick instructions (also see deleting and the detailed instructions ) :

Preselection versus in-tool selection: This example shows the adding of construction lines in Modeling by preselecting a member's main material in Select Items Mode , then invoking Construction Line Add Material . When Construction Line Add Material is invoked first, there is no need to use the selection filter (or the context menu) to select a main material. Also, in the Drawing Editor you must set the selection filter to ' Polygons ' in order to do preselection.

1 . Select one or more materials that you want the construction lines drawn through. You must select materials, not members.
2 . Invoke Construction Line Add Material .
3 . Construction Line Add Material draws construction lines along the edges and through the vertex points of the material.

Detailed instructions (also see deleting and the quick instructions ) :

The following instructions assume that you are using a 3-button mouse. You must do either step 1d (preselection) or step 3 (in-tool selection) to perform this operation. Also, you must preselect or in-tool select one or more materials. If you preselect members (instead of materials) in step 1d, Construction Line Add To Material prompts you to select materials in step 3.

1 . Before using this tool:

1a : In Modeling , make sure that the member(s) associated with the materials you want construction lines through are displayed in one of the three solid forms . This is not necessary in the Drawing Editor .

1b (if you are going to do 1d) : In Modeling , you may want to set the selection filter to ' Material '. In the Drawing Editor , you must set the selection filter to ' Polygons '.

1c (to be able to see the construction lines you are adding) : If you are in the Drawing Editor , the display of " Construction lines/circles " needs to be on (checked). In Modeling , the display of " Construction lines/circles " needs to be on.

Select Items bindings (step 1d)

1d (optional) : In Select Items mode, use Select or Select+ (or draw an area box ) to select the materials (or polygons) that you want to add construction lines to. Use Select- if you want to deselect material.

2 . Invoke Construction Line Add Material using any one (1) of the following methods. Note that if you use method 4, you must do step 3.

Method 1 : Click the Construction Line Add to Material icon, which is pictured above. The icon can be taken from the group named ' Model -- Construction Lines ' ( Modeling ) or ' Objects -- Construction Lines ' ( Drawing Editor ) and placed on a toolbar (classic) or the ribbon (lightning).

Method 2 : If " Modeling layout style " is ' Classic ', you can use the menu system to choose Model > Construction Lines > Add To Material . When " Drawing Editor layout style " is ' Classic ', choose Objects > Construction Lines > Add To Material .

Method 3, 4 or 5 : Construction Line Add Material can also be configured to be invoked using a keyboard shortcut , the context menu , or a mode . For the lightning interface, this configuration is done using Customize Interface . The default keyboard shortcut is c z .

Method 6 : With Construction Line Mode mouse bindings active, middle-click ( Add Mtrl ) while holding down the Ctrl key ( Modeling ), the Shift key ( Drawing Editor ).

3 . Skip this step if you already selected materials (or polygons) in step 1d.

Select Item(s) bindings

3a (if you didn't preselect) : The program prompts you to use Select Item(s) mouse bindings to select the material(s) you want. This prompting also occurs if an item other than a material (or polygon) was selected in step 1d. Press the Enter key or right-click ( Menu ) and choose " OK " on the context menu when you are done selecting materials.

4 . The program adds construction lines through all vertex points of the materials you selected. On a wide flange or channel beam, a construction line is also placed at half the beam's nominal depth. The mouse bindings that were active before you invoked this tool become active again.

   Deleting MATERIAL construction lines :

Material construction lines are construction lines ( or construction circles ) that have been added using Construction Line Add Material . They are marked internally to be distinct from other construction lines. To remove them, simply select the material that has the material construction lines, then invoke Construction Line Add Material . This example uses preselection -- see the quick instructions . You can use this method to delete material construction lines in Modeling (as shown) and in the Drawing Editor .

1 . Select one or more materials which have had material construction lines added to them.
2 . Invoke Construction Line Add Material .
3 . The material construction lines are deleted.
