   Preselection versus in-tool selection :

  • If you preselect items before you Right-click ( Menu ) > " Edit" in Modeling or the Drawing Editor , the tool acts on those preselected items. In the Drawing Editor , if those items are different types, the Multi Items Edit window opens.
  • If there is no preselection when you Edit > Edit in Modeling or the Drawing Editor , you are given Select Item(s) mouse bindings and are prompted to make a selection.
Select Item(s) bindings
  • " Edit " is either not visible ( Modeling ) or is disabled ( Drawing Editor ) on the default context menu when there is no selection.

What generic Edit does in Modeling :

  • In Modeling , right-click ( Menu ) > " Edit " opens the edit window for one or multiple members, materials, holes, bolts, welds, construction lines or construction circles. It can be used to edit multiple members or edit multiple materials or edit multiple bolts or edit multiple holes or edit multiple welds . " Edit Other " (on the context menu ) edits only one entity at a time.
  • When incompatible types of objects are selected, right-click (menu) > "Edit" acts only on those items that are higher in the hierarchy. Example 1: If members are selected along with materials that are not a part of those members, " Edit " acts on the members and clears the materials from the selection. Example 2: If materials and holes, bolts or welds not associated with those materials are selected, " Edit " acts on the materials and clears the other items from the selection.
  • When multiple members of the same type are selected (e.g., beams only), right-click (menu) > "Edit" opens the edit window for members of that type.
  • When multiple members of the different types are selected (e.g., beams and columns), right-click (menu) > "Edit" opens the Edit Properties window.
  • When multiple materials of the same type are selected (e.g. rectangular plates only), right-click (menu) > "Edit" opens the edit window for materials of that type. When multiple materials of the different types are selected (e.g. rectangular plates and rolled sections), it opens the User Created Standard Part Material window.
