Beams from Input to Auto Moment Load ( Home & 3D & 2D)

Tool summary :

  • Lists beams in the model that have user-entered moment loads on at least one of their ends. Select on the list those beams that you want to have auto moment loads on both ends.
  • On each end of the Beam Edit windows of members you selected to be changed, you will find " Moment load " is set to " Auto ."
  • An auto moment load is calculated based on the " Percent of maximum allowable moment " entered in Design Settings . The magnitude of such a load affects the size and strength of a " Moment " connection.

1 . Do any of the following to invoke Beams from Input to Auto Moment Load :

Home > Utilities > Utility Functions > Change Options > Beams from Input to Auto Moment Load .

▸ Click the Beams from Input to Auto Moment Load icon. The icon can be taken from the group named ' Edit -- Change Options ' and placed on the ribbon.

Beams from Input to Auto Moment Load can also be configured to be invoked using a keyboard shortcut , the context menu , or a mode . For the lightning interface, this configuration is done using Customize Interface .

2 . After you invoke this Change option, a selection dialog opens. On it is a list of beams that have a " Moment load " which has been entered by the user. Since you cannot perform this operation on beams that have their " Model complete date " set, or on beams whose edit windows are set to " Lock end ," such members do not appear on the list. Each beam is listed by its member number [num] and piecemark.

When you press " OK ," the moment loads of the selected beams will be set to " Auto ."

2a (optional) : Note that a " Print " button is available on this selection dialog so that you can print the list of beams with user-entered moment loads if you like. To list all beams with user-entered moment loads, you can " Show All ."

2b : Select the beam(s) on whose edit windows you want to have " Auto " selected for the field " Moment load ," then press " OK ."

3 . " Auto " is selected as the left/right " Moment load " on the edit window(s) of the beam(s) you selected in step 2. The beams are marked for Process and Create Solids .

Note: Then next time you Process and Create Solids , connection design calculates the moment load and redesigns the moment connection(s) on the end(s) of the beam(s) so that these connections stand up to the newly calculated load.
