Unshorten Drawing ( Drawing Editor > d e )

Tool summary :

  • Redraws materials depicted in a shortened drawing to their true proportions. Do this prior to adding objects to a drawing.
  • If a detail has been Shortened twice, Unshorten once undoes both Shorten operations.
  • Unshorten Drawing applies to details of members or submaterials that have been Shortened manually or shortened automatically during automatic detailing.
  • Warning: Auto detailing sometimes adds a construction line across views on a detail in order to ensure that, during Shorten Drawing , points under the construction line are constrained to the construction line. If you delete such a construction line, Unshorten Drawing , then Shorten Drawing , different views of the same material may be shortened in different ways, resulting in materials that are depicted in those views becoming misaligned.

   Some reasons to unshorten :

  • Add graphic objects to member details in an unshortened view if you want Detail Members to later be able to correctly preserve ' User-created ' annotations.
  • Positioning objects in an unshortened view also helps to ensure that those objects will be properly positioned when the drawing is shortened again.
  • Tools that measure distances ( Ruler , BSCL , Add Dimension ), are not always completely precise and accurate in a shortened view. Use Unshorten before using these tools.
  • Point locators such as INCL operate in unshortened space, even in a shortened drawing. For example, on a shortened drawing, it may look like a construction line intersects with a construction circle, but when you Unshorten you may find that the construction line and construction circle do not intersect.
